Mental Health Triaging is an initial clinical function that assesses a person who is either experiencing mental illness or possibly appears to be.
Mental Health Triage is a clinical service based in the Emergency Department (ED) of the Bendigo Hospital and performs prompt psychiatric assessment and coordination of treatment, for persons who are referred or presenting to ED with mental health concerns. The initial assessment can help determine the urgency of the situation and if certain risks are involved. The triage service is offered throughout the Loddon Mallee region across all age groups.
The service is the single entry point for all referrals and people who self-present. Referrals are placed through a screening process and the information provided will determine if our triage team performs further assessment. Further assessment is performed by our Emergency Crisis Assessment Team (ECAT), who help determine what follow up is appropriate if any. If our service is appropriate to support treatment and care then a plan is established with patient, family, carer and identified services.
