Did you know that as a volunteer, not only are you supporting our patients, residents and visitors, you're also supporting your own health and wellbeing? Volunteering is a great way to stay fit, become familiar with our health service, connect with like-minded people and have fun.
Our volunteers are vital members of the Bendigo Health family and provide invaluable support to staff and those who pass through our health service. Bendigo Health currently works in partnership with almost 150 volunteers who generously give their time, skills, energy and care to help improve the health care experience of our patients, staff, residents and visitors.
Volunteers can be found in many areas across our health service including administration, wards and clinics. They also help out in areas such as palliative care, residential care and some community programs.
Most of our volunteer roles are people-oriented, and are aimed at enhancing the health care experience. This is reflected in the services and areas they cover, including:
Concierge or orienteering – volunteers walk with patients and visitors, navigating them through the health service to get them safely to their destination.
Wards and clinics – volunteers spend time providing practical and emotional support to people who may enjoy a visit or someone to chat with.
Transport – volunteers will transport some patients home from their hospital stay, allowing them to get home safely.
HACCPYP (Home and Community Care for Younger People) – volunteers will be linked to consumers of this program and provide a level of company, connection and support through social outings.
Palliative care – volunteers spend time chatting with patients and families, and are sometimes involved in a more structured activity program within the day respite service.
Residential care – volunteers visit, get involved in lifestyle activities or may go on a bus trip with residents.
