What we do

We provide children and families with family-centred, multi-disciplined and personalised, high quality care whilst maintaining close links with the community.

The unit has eight specialist paediatricians, 24 hour paediatric registrar and resident medical officers and highly skilled paediatric focused nursing staff.  We offer a range of care for children requiring medical, surgical, orthopaedic, and ENT services. 

Who we care for

We care for all children from early infancy through to adolescence admitted either via the Emergency Department, for a planned admission or directly from our community services after discussion with our on-call paediatrician.

What to expect

Our unit offers a warm and friendly environment, focusing on play and distraction with everyday care.

We provide facilities for a parent/guardian to stay overnight and encourage parents to be involved in their child's care. Tea and coffee facilities are provided along with a parent's lounge and a light breakfast for parents who have stayed overnight.

Other Services

Home Oximetry Service
Education and overnight loan of equipment to parents/guardians on how to use the oximeter, to enable overnight oximetry data to be collected, downloaded and sent to referring practioner. 

Nurse Lead Outpatient Clinic
Providing support to families requiring assessment and minor procedures not requiring medical input. eg  CVAD access: to provide maintenance of children’s Central Venous Access Devices.  

Paediatric Sedation Session for Vaccinations

A fortnightly sedation session is available for children with disabilities and high level needle anxiety in our community.  Children requiring vaccinations that have been unsuccessful in the community may be referred to these session by a GP.  Referrals may be sent to [email protected]

Commonly asked questions

What do I need to bring?
Favourite doll, blanket, teddy or other comfort item. A favourite activity, game or new toy especially for hospital. Toiletries, pyjamas and comfortable clothes. You are welcome to bring photos of family members and pets at home.

When do I need to fast my child for surgery? 
Doctors and Nurses will be able to advise you or refer to operation information provided by the hospital.
