Designed in consultation with clinicians and consumers, the Cancer Centre provides collaboration spaces for treatment teams to meet and discuss cases to deliver excellent care. The space overlooks the main garden along one side of the building and incorporates courtyards with access to natural light and vegetation to create a tranquil, healing environment.
There is an education room for patients and staff, multiple waiting areas and there is a discrete entry for unwell patients requiring ambulance transport.
Staffed by a multi-disciplinary team, Bendigo cancer patients have access to a highly skilled medical team who each have sub-specialities to ensure the team has advanced knowledge about the treatment of specific cancers.
The radiotherapy and radiation oncologist services are provided to the Bendigo Cancer Centre through a partnership with Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre.
Led by Dr Robert Blum, Clinical Director of both the Bendigo Oncology Unit and the Loddon Mallee Integrated Cancer Services, our team has an active interest in participating in clinical trials and we are an accredited site of oncology training with the Australasian College of Physicians.
The world class Cancer Centre offers medical oncology, radiation oncology, palliative care, specialist nurses, allied health services and clinical trials.

CT scanner for radiation therapy planning.
Specialist treatment machine used to treat some skin cancers.
The Oncology Unit provides a wide range of chemotherapy, hormonal therapy, immunotherapy, biological targeted therapies and symptom support as part of an integrated and multidisciplinary cancer centre at Bendigo Hospital.
Oncology chairs are separated into pods for patient comfort. Each chair has a patient entertainment system for patients to use whilst they undergo treatment.
A lounge, kitchenette and a patient education area is available for patients, their families and carers.
Allied Health staff form part of the cancer treatment team and you may be referred to see them during your treatment. These include Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Dieticians, Speech Pathologists and Social Workers.
Specialist nurses like Breast Care Nurse, Familial Cancer Nurse, Medical Oncology and Urology Oncology Nurse Practitioners work at the centre.
Located on the ground floor of the Bendigo Hospital. Paid parking is available underneath the building and timed, free, parking in the surrounding streets which varies from one to three hours.
Receiving a cancer diagnosis and navigating one’s way through the health system is not always easy. A lot can happen very quickly when you’re diagnosed with cancer. Optimal Care Pathways (OCPs) are a framework for the delivery of consistent, safe, high-quality and evidence-based care for people with cancer. Linked to the Optimal Care Pathways are a suite of consumer resources to support people with cancer called What to Expect guides. The guides can help you make sense of what should happen. They will help you with what questions to ask your health professionals to make sure you receive the best care at every step. The guides outline the best cancer care for specific tumour types and can be found at www.cancerpathways.org.au . Patients and their families can use the What to Expect guides to better understand the cancer care pathway through the often-complex health system. The guides have been endorsed by the National Cancer Expert Reference Group, Cancer Australia and Cancer Council Australia.
